When did you start with Edinburgh Running School?
I’m a relative newcomer joining at the beginning of May.
What was your motivation to start with Edinburgh Running School?
I’ve done a few 10k runs and a half marathon. However, I wasn’t too happy with my time at my last 10k so I decided to look around for a running club in order to try and improve my future performances. I looked around and liked what I read about the Edinburgh Running School.
How does running make you feel?
I love the satisfaction of having completed a run. It can, of course, be difficult during the run but it’s a fantastic way of forgetting about the day to day grind and any problems or stress you might have.
Why do you run with Edinburgh Running School?
Being part of the Edinburgh Running School helps motivate me to run, whether it be at a club session or on my own during the week. I like the variety of sessions and I think the down to earth attitude of the members of the Edinburgh Running School is definitely one of the reasons I keep coming back.
Tell us about your best ever race or if you haven't done one yet, one you'd love to do.
Last year I completed the Edinburgh Half Marathon and I was really pleased with my time. I ran it in support of a charity I am involved in and I was fortunate to be able to raise a lot of money. The Great Edinburgh 10k run took place 2 weeks after and I felt really fit going into it and I managed to achieve a personal best time.
Do you do any other sports?
Not so much now but I used to play a lot of team sports like football, rugby and basketball and I’m a qualified rugby coach. Whilst never being the most talented player in the world, I enjoyed being part of team and the camaraderie was important to me. As a runner, you can miss out on this so that why I like my involvement with the Edinburgh Running School.
If you could achieve one goal in your running in 2011, what would it be?
I turn 40 this year and my goal is to run the Edinburgh 10k in less than an hour.
What would you say to anyone reading this who is thinking of joining Edinburgh Running School?
I’d have no hesitation in recommending it to you. It can be hard work but great fun and the people are fantastic.
Do you have any advice or pearls of wisdom for someone looking to get started or coming back to running?!
Running is a great activity for all ages and all types of people. If I can do it then anyone can do it. Come along and get yourself involved. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. On a practical note padded socks are essential!
Are you curious about the people who come along to our classes? We're certainly inspired by our runners and we thought you might be too!
